He married Martha Cox, daughter of Charles Cox and Sarah (Pearsall) Cox,[2]
He was a bayman when he and Martha appeared on the census of 1 August 1850 in the home of his parents at Hempstead, Queens, New York.[3] He was a fisherman when he and Martha appeared on the census of 26 June 1860 at Hempstead, Queens, New York. His mother was living with them.[4]
