Biography

Flag of Suffolk (adopted 2017)
John Hoo was born in Suffolk, England.

John Hoo was the eldest son of John Hoo and his wife Katherine Tylly. No birth record is found for him. His birth date is estimated.

John is known almost entirely through his father's Will, proved 1492, in which he is bequeathed certain parcels of land:

I bequethe & I asygn to my sone John and to ye eyers male of his Body lawfully begotyn wtought ende alle ye lands & tents medewes & pastures wt her ptynencs ye wiche laste I hold in r seyd towne of hessett of the dymyssyon & ffeffement of Reynold Tylly late of hessett forseyd And also I asygne on to ye seyd John my sone and to heyers male of his Body lawfully begetyn wt oute ende iiii pees of londo an a pes of medew wt her pytnencs lying in the seyd town of hessett of ye wyche on pes of londe ys cownted for j Acr of londe & it lythe in thef felde called ye cherchefeld by syde ye londe late of Rog Bradstrete on ye northe pty & it abuttyth ageyns ye weste uppon ye londelate of Edmund Bacon . . .

The 1558 burial of a John Hoo in Hesset is presumed to be him.

Although there is no record of a wife or child, some of the same parcels of land bequeathed to him were bequeathed by Walter Hoo, to his own eldest son John in his Will proved 1589, with the stricture: "charging him [his son John] as he will answer before God, at the great daie of Judgment, that he break not the true meaninge of this my will, nor the entayles in the same, my plaine intent being to continue my lannds and tenements to the heir male as my Ancestors left yt to me."[1]

On the basis of this entail, Walter Hoo can be assumed to be the eldest (surviving) son of John.

Hoo-15 and Hoo-11 do not represent the same person because: These are two different generations of the same family: one is the father of the other.
