She died on November 3, 1891, in Etowah, Alabama, at the age of 35, and was buried in Gadsden, Alabama.

She was the daughter of Stephen Reed Hood (1818-1883) and Jane Sewell Hood (1822-1887). She married James Alexander McCluskey on October 22, 1876, in Etowah County, Alabama (Book A, Page 297). They had eight children: John H. (1877-1878), Lula Cornelia (1879-1947), Robert Lee (1882-1931), Andrew Stephen (1884-1931), Leila M.J. (1886-1916), Mattie E. (1887-1922), Mollie Evelyn (1889-1969), and Huldah (1891-1893).
