Biography

Joel was born February 4, 1856 in Sussex County, Virginia.^[1] He is the son of Samuel Hood and Betty Prince.^[2]

He married Margaret Emma (Magee) McGee on December 23, 1879 in Sussex County, Virginia.^[3] They had six known children.^[4], ^[5], ^[6]

Joel started out as a farmer in Sussex County right after he married Maggie.^[7] By 1900 he had quit farming, moved to Petersburg, in Dinwiddie County, rented a house and was working as a dairyman.^[4] He must have done well because within 10 years, in 1910, he owned his home outright and had all of his children at home.^[5]

Joel died in 1915 ^[1] and is buried at the Blandford Cemetery in Petersburg.^[6]
