Samuel was born in 1841. He was the son of Thomas Hood and Ellen Quinn. He married Loretta M. Osborn in Geauga County, Ohio on 21 Feb 1865. They farmed and raised a family in Geauga County. After Loretta died on 24 Oct 1871, Samuel remarried to Ameila L. Giles in 1875. Samuel passed away on 8 Sep 1896. He is buried with Amelia in Shadyside Cemetery in Auburn Township, Ohio.
