Research Notes
The only known source for this person is the tombstone on Find A Grave.
Cornelia does not appear in the 1860 Census for Cornelia's father, Clement Willoughby Hood (1827-1910). He is already remarried. Cornelia's sister, Ophelia A Hood is listed.
Someone on Family Search made the decision that the child Ophelia A. Hood (1855-1862) is aka Cornelia G Hood. They put Ophelia's birth and death dates the same as Cornelia's tombstone.
Cornelia's mother, Ophelia Amanda (Shankle) Hood (1830-1857), died in 1857. It is possible that Cornelia was given to a family member to raise since she was only two years old at the time of her Mother's death.
Neither Cornelia or Ophelia are listed in Clement's 1870 Census.
Many "Trees" on Ancestry.com have Cornilla A Emerline Hood as Seaborn McKendree Shankle (1825-1885) first wife. Possible but on Ancestry the trees have propagated that Cornelia AND Emerline are the same person. This is impossible since there is a marriage certificate stating that Emerline's LNAB is Giddens, not Hood. Ancestry Trees are probably wrong, see #10 + #11
There is an 1850 Census that lists a Cornelia A E Hood as 19 years old, born in 1931. Harriet C (Morrison) Hood (1802-1879) is listed as her mother, which contradicts Find A Grave Memorial 118277154.[1]
Is it possible that Seaborn Shankle married three times and not twice, as Family Search states? probably Not, see #10 + #11
The Cornelia Ann Elizabeth Hood (#10) is the brother of Clement Willoughby Hood (1827-1910). Clement is listed as the father on this Profile... so it seems likely that Clement would name his daughter Cornelia. Does Not explain why the dates on the tombstone match her sister's, Ophelia A. Hood (1855-1862), tombstone.
Cornelia Ann Elizabeth Hood Cowan died on 9 Feb 1853 in Jackson County, Georgia and is buried in the Hood-Dunagan-Mann Cemetery. https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/133521027/cornelia_ann-elizabeth-cowanThis is the best elimination for Cornelia Hood to be a wife of Seaborn M Shankle, different headstone w/married name of Cowan.
Which brings us back to ....Why would Ophelia A Hood have a tombstone with Cornelia O Hood?
