Robert Hood was born on 24 Sep 1848 in Quebec, Canada, son of Andrew William Hood (1816 - 1881) and Margaret (Adams) Hood (1818 - 1856).

His sister was Margaret Ann (Hood) Smith (1843 - 1914).

Robert (30) married Eliza Jane Pitman (24) (1855 - 1910) on 31 Jul 1879 in Res of William A Harvey, Millicent, South Australia, Australia. Their children were:
