Biography

Florence Alice Hook was born in 1856 in Camberwell, Middlesex. She was the daughter of William Henry Hook and Mary Annie (Brown) Hook.

Florence married Walter Binden Marcus in 1877 in Camberwell district.

They had nine children, all born in England, before emigrating to the United States between 1901 and 1911 - Austin arrived at Ellis Island on 12 December 1907.

Florence died in San Mateo, California on 16 Feb 1940.

Marcus -- In San Mateo, February 16, 1940. Florence Alice, wife of the late Walter B. Marcus, beloved mother of Mrs. Hilda McColm, Mrs. Olive Walters, Ernest T., Austin L., Norman S. Marcus and the late Mrs. Dora Manwaring and Mrs. Violet M. Stollery.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Feb. 19, at 1 p.m., at the family home, 110 Tilton Ave., San Mateo. Interment, Cyprus Lawn Memorial Park.
