James Avery Hooker was born on 18 Jan 1807 in Smarden, Kent, England to parents Stephen Hooker and Susan Smith. He was christened on 29 Mar 1807 in Smarden, Kent, England. [1]
He immigrated to America in 1833 arriving on 17 Feb 1833. He settled in Otsego, New York. There he married firstly Harriet Brill in 1834.
Children: Mary Jane, Edmund.
After Harriet died in 1839 he married secondly Phoebe Lorinda Newton on 24 Jan 1841 in Otsego, New York.
Children: Harriet, Newton Elijah, James, William, John Delbert. [2][3]
He died on 30 Oct 1896 in Waverly, Bremer, Iowa, and was buried in the Harlington Cemetery there. [4][5]
