Biography

Matthew, son of John and Jane[nee Roberts] Hooley [or Howley] , was born in Wollaton, in 1608. He married Alice [Ales] Brooks [?] at Wollaton in 1630 - as the parish Register puts it - "nuptus erat circitur hoc tempus".


In 1674 "Math" Hooley was assessed 1d for Hearth Tax, and nine years later, in 1683, "old Matthew Hooley was buried".

Matt Hooley is assessed for Hearth Tax in Wollaton in 1674 [ref NRO E 179/For some reason I have Matthew Hooley senior [Howley] as having been married [when?] to an Elizabeth Eyre. This needs further investigation.
