James Hooley was born in 1822 in New Mills, Chapelry of Hayfield, Derbyshire and was christened there on 2 June 1822, the son of Henry Hooley and Hannah Matcher[1]

James Hooley married Mary Pate on 29 September 1844 in the Chapel of Beard, Derbyshire; James and Mary were recorded as residing in Mellor, Derbyshire at the time of the marriage[2][3]
