Biography

Thomas was born in 1709. He is the son of Daniel Hooley and Mary Unknown. He worked as a Framework Knitter and Hosier. He married three times, dying eventually in Papplewick in October 1779 aged 70. In his Will, written and signed on July 1st 1771, he bequeaths Twenty Pounds to his wife, furnished accommodation, and a further Twenty Pounds to be paid each year [£5 each quarter]. He bequeaths Two Hundred Pounds to his daughter Ann, and One Hundred Pounds each to his GrandDaughters, Ann and Frances Burton when they reach the age of Twenty-One. He leaves Twenty Pounds and the rest of his estate to his only son, James Hooley. Witnesses to this Will were Henry Hooley and William Beastall.

Thomas Hooley of Papplewick, widower aged 27, obtained a license to marry Ann Leadbetter, a spinster aged 22 of Stapleford, at St Nicholas in Nottingham in 1750 [1].

A Thomas Hooley, "gent of Plumtree" on Sept 1750 stands Bond for the marriage of Thomas Hooley of Papplewick with Ann Leadbeater of Stapleford. If this is Thomas Hooley of Papplewick's 3rd marriage, how come the need for a bond? and who is Thomas Hooley, gent of Plumtree?

In 1753 on Feb 20, Thomas Hooley [of Bulwell Forge, Parish of Papplewick, Framework Knitter, is signatory to a Bond for Marriage Licence of Henry Hooley, farmer, of Tollerton, aged 28, bachelor and Ann Street of the same, aged 20, spinster, at Nottingham St Nicholas.

In 1771, on January 26, Thomas Hooley of Papplewick, hosier, is signatory to a Bond for Marriage of James Hooley of Nottingham St Peter's, hosier aged 19, bachelor…. and as father of James consents to his intended Marriage.

Thomas Hooley was buried on 8 October 1779 at St. James Papplewick, Nottinghamshire.

I believe it was Robert Hooley, b. 1683 at Stapleford, d. 1775 at Normanton (Plumtree Parish), “gent of Plumtree” who stood Bond for the marriage of his nephew Thomas Hooley of Papplewick and Ann Leadbeater of Stapleford in 1750.
