Biography

Supposedly Henry's father was a captain and transported many people to the New World.

Henry Hooper was born circa 1643 in England. Some references indicate him to have been born in Maryland, but there are sources showing Henry Hooper Sr. arriving in Maryland with his wife Sarah and 4 children Henry Jr., Richard, Elizabeth, Sarah in 1651 and settling on the Patuxent River in Calvert County.

Henry patented many properties firstly in Calvert County near Calvert Cliffs and then in Dorchester County in and around what later became Hoopers Island.

On 4 July 1669, he married Elizabeth Denwood of Somerset County, Maryland.

Henry Hooper II was named in the settlement of his father's estate on 5 August 1676 at Calvert County, Maryland. Henry's father's property was divided amongst the children.

Henry lived in Dorchester County and continued to grow his land holdings. Henry and Elizabeth had three children before Elizabeth died between 1680 and 1690. Henry remarries to Mary Woolford, the niece of his first wife, in 1690. Henry and Mary had 11 children.

Henry was a justice of Dorchester County from 1669 to 1697. On 10 Aug 1706 in Dorchester County, one Henry Hooper, aged 63, made oath before Thomas Hicks, a Justice of the provincial court, that some time in Sept 1669 [he was] going up Transquaken River in company with one Thomas Houston & others with intent to discover land to survey and take up.

In his will executed on 27 March 1720 at Dorchester Co, Maryland, Henry Hooper II gave to eldest son Henry and hrs., 250 A. "Hooper's Chance," on s. side Chickennocomoco R; 181 A. "Hooper's Fortune," adj. former tract, and 350 A. "Hooper's Lott"; also 500 A. on e. side of Preston Ck., Patuxent R., being tract where testator's father Henry Hooper lived; and personalty. To sons Thomas and John, 800 A. "Hooper's Forrest" (formerly "Martin's Hundred" and "Addition to Martin's Hundred"), on Nanticoke R., div. to be made by son-in-law Mathew Traverse and son Henry; shd. either son die without issue, survivor to inherit portion of dec'd; shd. both die without issue, to son James and hrs. Also lower pt. of "Hooper's Island," equally; shd. both sd. sons die without issue, their share of "Hooper's Island" to pass to son Roger and hrs. To son Roger and hrs., pt. of "Hooper's Island"; shd. he die without issue, his portion to pass in succession to sons Henry, Thomas and John. Also one lot in town of Plimoth (Plymouth)on n. side Fishing Ck. To son James and hrs., 300 A. "Parpeigham" on w. side Transquakin, and 100 A. "Crowes Nest," he dying without issue, sd. lands to pass in succession to sons John and Thomas. To Henry Hooper and hrs. (son of Richd. Hooper, dec'd), residue of land at head of World's Eud Ck., where sd. Richd. Hooper lived; and 1s. in full for his and his father's part of personal estate. To daus. Mary Ennalls, Eliza. Traverse, Ann Broom, Mary Hicks, Rosannah Hodson and Sarah Hayward, 1s. each. To daus. Rebecca and Priscilla, personalty and 20s. each. To grandson Henry, son of son Henry, personalty. To wife Mary, extx., and hrs., ½ of tract taken up with Mathew Travorce, on e. side of World's End Ck; use of dwelling plantstion -- and lot in town of Plimoth, during life; personalty and 2/5 of personal estate, absolutely, remaining 3/5s to 4 sons, viz. Thomas, Roger, James and John as they arrive at age of 18. Overseers: Col. Roger Woollford and Maj. Henry Ennalls. Test: John Hodson, Jr., Mathew Travers, Mary Harris, Daniel Liddall (Lydall).

Henry's will was proved on 30 August 1720, so he died sometime between 27 March and 30 August.

Hooper-9145 and Hooper-1161 appear to represent the same person because: I created Hooper-9145 by mistake. I thought I was setting Hooper-9145 as the father of Hooper-123 (Richard). They are the same person
