There are at least four Matthew Brooks Hoopers in the family, and it can be difficult to distinguish which records relate to which person. The Matthew Brooks Hooper (Sr.) of this profile had a son named Matthew Brooks Hooper (Jr.). Matthew Sr.'s brother Richard had a son named Matthew Brooks Hooper (making him the nephew of Matthew Sr.). Nephew Matthew named one of his sons Matthew Brooks Hooper. To further add to the confusion, Matthew Sr. married Elizabeth Adams Word, the daughter of Elizabeth Adams and Charles Word. After Charles's death, his widow Elizabeth Adams married Richard Hooper, Matthew Sr.'s brother, making her and her daughter Elizabeth Adams Word sisters-in-law.
