Rose was born in 1892. She was the daughter of Vernon Hooper and Mary Byrne.
On 11 Dec 1936 she m. Sander van Harten. Her husband was an architect/builder and they lived in Johannesburg. It was his practice to build a house, get the garden established, and then sell it and move on to the next, so they changed address often. She passed away in 1952.
