David, better known as Alvin, was born in 1911. He is the son of Wilborn D Hooper and Minnie Wilson.

Alvin Hooper fulfilled a dream by founding the Piedmont Golf Course in 1955. The course would later be named Lakeview Golf Course in the Grove Station Community of Piedmont, South Carolina.[1]

Fulfilling his dream was not without sacrifice. Financial hardship forced him to sell the course twice, but he managed to buy it back both times. Alvin was a self made man, achieving success through hard work.

My grandmother's house, located across the street from the golf course. Rumors has it that Bessie Road in Piedmont Greenville was named after my grandmother. My grandmother was one of Alvin Hooper's older sister.

I do know my dad, Donnie Blackstone, Bessie's son, lived across the street from the golf course as a teenager and worked as a caddy. A funny story he often told was of a Dr. Campbell of Piedmont had made my dad mad, and dad threw his clubs in the lake.

Dad said he made more money retrieving golf balls and clubs from the lake and selling them back to his uncle, than he did as a caddy![2]

Alvin also owned Hooper Amusement Company and sold it to Collins. He bought a gas station in the 70's when gas was rationed so that his trucks could service the pinball machines and juke boxes.
