Richard Hooper, son of Richard Hooper and Martha, was born on 16 Mar 1870 and was baptised at Mevagissey[†], Cornwall, England on the 29th of October, 1871.[1]
† The ODM above record appears to be incorrect as the 1871 census gives his place of birth as Pentewan, St Austell, Cornwall, England. This is followed up as St Austell in the 1881 census. (See below) however it could just be that the baptism was at Mevagissey.

1902 Travel
Richard Hooper departed from Southampton on the 31st May 1902[6] aboard the Goorkha bound for Durban (Port Natal), South Africa. He was accompanied on the trip by his brother Nicholas.
1905 Travel
Richard Hooper departed from London on the 23rd September 1905[7] aboard the Umhlali† bound for Durban (Port Natal), South Africa.
† The Umhlali was a new ship built in 1904 when Richard travelled on it in 1905 and it was subsequently wrecked off The Cape in 1909.
Research Note
There is an additional record that says the marriage was 3rd June, 1900.[8] Both are extracted records but the correct date is taken to be the 27th as that matches the parish registers..
