Biography

Matilda was born in 1855, the daughter of Thomas Batten Hooper and Johanna May. [1]

In 1890 in Victoria she married Samuel Harris Gribbin (abt. 1855-1915). [2] Samuel was widowed, and had 3 children with his first wife, Benjamina (Burke) Gribbin (abt. 1861-1888).

Samuel and Matilda had an unnamed child, born 1890. [3]

Samuel died in 1915, aged 59.

Matilda passed away in 1936, aged 81. [4]

GRIBBIN. — On the 4th August, at private hospital, Melbourne, Mrs. Matilda Gribbin, of 411 Canning-street, North Carlton, widow of the late Samuel Harris Gribbin, loved sister of Joanna (Mrs. Hall) and Emily (Mrs. Armstrong), aged 81 years.
GRIBBIN.—The Friends of the late Mrs. MATILDA GRIBBIN, of 411 Canning-street, North Carlton, are respectfully informed that her remains will be interred in the Brighton General Cemetery. The cortege will leave the Funeral Parlor of J. Holdsworth, 380 Lygon-street, Carlton, THIS DAY (Wednesday), 5th August, at 11 o'clock. [5]

She was buried in Brighton Cemetery, Caulfield South, on 5 August, 1936, CofE Section T, Grave 234, to join Samuel.
