Biography

Joseph Hooper was born on 7 March 1817 in Birmingham. His parents were William Hooper and Ann Denford. His father was a soldier with the cavalry, so William likely moved around as a child before the family settled back in Birmingham. He was baptised on 7 April 1828 at St. Philip in Birmingham, the family living on Sheep Street.[1]

Joseph (full age, a metal caster of Aston Road, Duddeston) married Ann Smith (minor, of Aston Road, Duddeston) on 22 February 1841 at St. Peter and St. Paul in Aston, after banns. The witnesses were James Silvester and Mary Smith. The couple had the following children:

  • John Hooper was born on 13 May 1841 on Sheep Street in Birmingham.[2][3] He was buried on 5 July 1842 at St. Mary in Birmingham, of Sheep Street and aged 14 months.
  • Joseph Hooper was born on 18 February 1844 on Church Street in Birmingham.[4][5]
  • William Hooper was born in 1846 in Birmingham.[6] He was buried on 25 August 1847 at St. Mary in Birmingham, of Sheep Street and aged 11 months.
  • Henry Hooper was born in 1848 in court 12 Sheep Street, Birmingham.[7][8] He was buried on 22 October 1848 at St. Mary, of Sheep Street and aged 4 months.
  • Mary Ann Hooper was born in about 1851 in Birmingham.[9]
  • Eliza Hooper was born in 1853 in Birmingham.[10]>
  • Edmund Hooper was born in July 1859 in Birmingham.[11] He was buried on 7 August 1859 at St. Mary, of Sheep Street, age 2 weeks.
  • Emma Hooper was born in 1860 in Birmingham.[12] She was buried on 17 December 1861 at St. Bartholomew in Birmingham, of Sheep Street and age 1 year.

Joseph was probably the Joseph Hooper buried on 17 September 1862 at St. Paul in Birmingham, of Hampton Street and age 44 [c. 1818 birth], but seeing his death record would be useful.
