Martin Hoover
(c.1750 - 16 February 1816)

MARTIN HOOVER was born in 1750, in the northern part of the Province of Maryland, the vicinity of present-day Bedford County, Pennsylvania. [1] The area was part of a region disputed by both Maryland and northern-bordering Pennsylvania, and not legally settled until the Mason-Dixon Line established in 1767. [2] He was the son of Jacob Huber and Anna Christina Guth/Good. [1]

Martin married Gertrude (maiden name unknown) (1758-1798) in 1722 in Pennsylvania, and they had the following 14 children: Magdalena Eversole (1783-1867), Barbara Shock (1775-1852), Christina Metzgter (1778-1856), David (1778-1848), Jonathan (1783-1856), Nancy Studebaker (1785-1877), Frances Kick (1788-1873), Jonas (1788-1873), Mary Paul (1790-1816), Moses (1791-1848), Elizabeth Suss (1793-1871), Joshua (1793-1876), and Elias (1797-1878). [3] [1]

He was living in Washington County, Maryland in 1790, per the U.S. Federal census. [4]

He moved his family to Bedford, Pennsylvania around 1796. [1]

After Gertrude died around 1798, he remarried to Catharine Knee and had six more children: Gertrude (1799-1893), Susannah (1801-1873), Martin Jr (1803-1866), Abraham, (1807-1839), Esther (1809-1824), and Margaret Miller (1812-1890). [1] [3]

Martin appears on the rolls for Woodbury Township in Bedford County, Pennsylvania for the 1800 Pennsylvania Septennial Census. [5]

Some time between 1805 and 1810 he moved to Montgomery Co., Ohio, along with some of his children. [1]

He died on 16 Feb 1816 in Jefferson Township, Montgomery County, Ohio. [1] [3]
