During the American Revolutionary War he participated in the battle of Point-Pleasant. He first married Elizabeth HOPKINS. His second marriage was on 24 Jul 1794 in Fincastle Presbytery, Botetourt County, Virginia to Mrs. Eliza(beth) McCLURE (daughter of Samuel McCLURE and widow of Malcolm McCLURE). For many years he was an elder in New Providence Presbyterian Church.
