John Hopkins was born on 26 Jul 1924 in St Helens, Lancashire. He was the son of Michael Hopkins and Maria (Highcock) Hopkins.

John married Vera Charnock in 1945, in a registrar-attended ceremony in St Helens district.

Vera died in 1953 in St Helens, aged 29. She was buried on 9 Nov 1953 at St Nicholas' Church in Sutton, St Helens. Her address was given as 448 Watery Lane.

John died in 1969 in St Helens, aged 45. He was buried on 9 Sep 1969 with his wife. His address was given as 41 Peckers Hill Road.
