"Sudden Death of Mrs. Julia Spring Only a Few Minutes After Returning From a Call On Relatives, This Kindly and Widely Known Resident of Sycamore For Many Years, Passed From Life. The sudden death on Sunday night of Mrs. Julia A. Spring brought distress and gloom to many in Sycamore, where this woman, by her sunny disposition and tender, ever-ready sympathies, had gained hundreds of warm friends. She visited the nearby home of her sister-in-law Mrs. W.S. Loomis for a few minutes, and while she mentioned that she did not feel well as usual, she apparently did not think her condition serious. She returned home, and, in a very few minutes after she was suddenly stricken. While Miss Ida Mitchell, who resides with Mrs. Spring was summoning relatives and a physician, Mrs. Spring passed away. Julia A. Hopkins was a daughter of Henry and Evelyn Hopkins, and was born in DeKalb township, this county, on May 15, 1851. She resided with her parents in that township until her marriage to Herbert A. Spring on June 4, 1874, since which time she had been a resident of Sycamore. To Mr. and Mrs. Spring were born two sons, Earl L. Spring, a salesman and merchant in Sycamore for a number of years, now a resident of Oak Park, Ill., and Myron J. Spring of Sycamore, both of whom survive. The husband and father died at their home in this city on May 3, 1890. Mrs. Spring also leaves surviving [John R.] Hopkins of Plaza, No. Dak.; Henry Hopkins of DeKalb, Ill.; Mrs. A.E. Root of Sycamore; Mrs. Latta Dewey of Brookfield, Mo.; and Mrs. Sarah Tobey of East Bloomfield, N.Y. Mrs. Spring was a member of a prominent pioneer family of DeKalb county, having been a niece of Deacon Hamlin and of Dr. Thomas Hopkins of DeKalb. The funeral services will be held at the home on East Elm street this Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock, Rev. W.L. Lewis, pastor of the Congregational church, officiating, and the remains will be interred in Elmwood Cemetery. Mrs. Spring had before suffered an attack of heart failure. She had been much worried over the illness of her nephew Roy Hopkins of DeKalb, and only a few minutes before her death she received word from her sister Mrs. A.E. Root, who’d visited the sufferer at DeKalb that day, the he was likely to survive but a short time." (Sycamore (IL) True Republican, 9 Dec 1914, p. 1)
