Birth
The birth of William Hopkins as the son of Gerrard & Margaret Hopkins is recorded in the Meeting Minutes of the West River Quaker Church on 8th day of the 6th month 1718[1][2]
William is listed in the 1776 census of Harford County, MD living in the Deer Creek Lower Hundred and age 58. His wife Rachel is 56 and children Susannah age 27, William Jr. age 25, John age 23, Leven age 21, Hannah age 18, Charles age 15, Samuel age 12. Also in the household was Andrew Thompson age 18.[3]
Although William Hopkins was a Quaker, he paid the 1783 Maryland Supply Tax.[4] This supply tax provided the Maryland Continental Line with munitions and rations during the American Revolutionary War.[5]
