Biography

Book by H. L. Peter Rounds: 1774 R.I. census, Peleg Round was listed in Scituate, the household consisting of, 5 Males & 4 Females over 16, 4 Males & 2 Females under 16. T he 1777 R.I. Military census put him in the category of: "50-60 years, Able to bear Arms." Peleg was in Foster on the 1782 R.I.census, the household then consisting of: 2 Males & 1 Female under 16, 1 Male & 1 female 16-22, 2 Males & 1 Female 22-50 and 1 male & 1 Female over 50. He is i n Foster on the 1800 Fed. census.

Peleg Round married 25 Nov. 1750 at Glocester, R.I. Susannah Hopkins. The published Glocester VR states that on this date Susannah Hopkins m." Peleg Roades". Inspection of microfilm of the original Town records show that the surname was written over twice and is a bit uncertain, though it can quite readily be construed as "Round." However, the index in the front of that original volume clearly states "Round" for that entry. "Notes on the Hopkins Family" (Narragansett Historical Register, Vol, 7, p. 152, 1 889 has the correct data, found by this compiler after the microfilm was inspected. Nichols and the Seamons Gen. erroneously stated that Peleg m . Mary Eddy. However, that was the married name of Peleg's sister Mary, who m. Peter Eddy. In its entirety, the entry in the original volume of the Glocester Births, Marriages and Deaths, 1728-1850, states: "Nov 25th Peleg Round & Susannah Hopkins ware joyned in Marriage.
