Biography

William Charles, son of Henry Hopkins and Mary Jane Portwood, was born in Marylebone in 1878 and christened at St. Marylebone Westminster on 23.2.1879. He married Cordelia Rose Abendroth at Mile End Old Town in 1900. Also in 1900 he was employed as a coachman by GWR Paddington at a wage of 22 shillings a week. In the census a few months later he and his wife are living at Camberwell. Ten years later they are living at Willesden and have three sons, William, Leonard and Edward and a daughter Rose. William is described as a horse omnibus driver. [1]
