From FAG bio: HARGIS G. HOPKINS RENSSELAER -- Hargis Carl {Garl} Hopkins, 75, of Rt. 6, Rennselaer, died at 7:50 p.m. Tuesday in Jasper County Hospital. He had been a patient there seven months. Mr. Hopkins, a native of Floyd County, Ky., had resided in the Rensselaer area since 1961. In 1930 he was married to Myrtle Allen who survives. Also surviving are eight sons, Leonard of Salyerville, Ky., Irvine of Hillsdale, Mich., Wiley of Ohio, Otto of Crete, Ill., and Hargis Jr., John, Silas and Paul, all of Rensselaer; six daughters, Mrs. Mildred Walden of Watsonville, Calif., Mrs. Christine Buchanan of Phoenix, Ariz., and Mrs. Donald Williams, Mrs. James McEwan, Mrs. Phinas Connolly, and Mrs. Juanita Smith, all of Rensselaer; a stepdaughter, Catherine Wireman of Rensselaer. Also, five brothers, George and Joe, both of Warsaw, Tom of Akron, Ind., Glen of Huntington and John of North Judson; and five sisters, Mrs. Betsy England of Jackson, Mich., Mrs. Martha Bailey of North Judson, Mrs. Virgie Salyers of Royalton, Ky., Mrs. Lessie Wadelle of Columbus, Ohio, and Mrs. Gracie Barnett of Huntington.

HOPKINS, Hargis Carl {Garl} Sr. -- Friends may call after 4 p.m. Thursday at the United Baptist Church at Bailey Corner. Service there at 2 p.m. Friday, the Rev. Jesse Bailey officiating. Burial in Independence Cemetery. Jackson Funeral Chapel, Rensselaer, in charge of arrangements.
