Miram was the son of Thomas Alexander Hopkins and Nancy "Nannie" Hopkins, part of the "first family" of Thomas A. Hopkins.
Miram was a photographer. When the depression hit, he reckoned there would be fewer people with money to have their picture made, and they moved back out to the farm in Fleming, Ohio.
