Benjamin Hopkins was born around 1720 in Talbot County Maryland. He was the son of Joseph Hopkins & Susannah Bruff. Father Joseph died in 1728 (Benjamin was only 6 and was to receive property at age 21 according to his father's Will). June 1736 Benjamin received 13 pounds 7 shillings from mother Susannah. On November 10, 1740 Benjamin married Mary Skinner. They had children- William, Joseph and Benjamin James. On June 24, 1742 Thomas Hopkins (uncle) gave "Schoolhouse Marsh, Hopkins Point" to Benjamin from his deceased father's estate. On April 25, 1763 Benjamin & Mary sold part of Hopkins Point "Compones Run" to Hugh Orem, blacksmith for 110 pounds current money. Benjamin Hopkins died in November 1768, he had a Will. I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Mary Hopkins all my estate both real and personal during her widowhood...I give and bequeath unto my son Joseph Hopkins my dwelling plantation whereon I now live- after his mothers marriage or decease to him...and if my son Joseph die without lawful issue then to my son Benjamin Hopkins and his heirs...March 28, 1767. Will proved on November 8, 1768. Noted on back William Hopkins heir at law to the testator of full age, but said to be an idiot.
