Biography

Frederick Hurlingh was born on 1 May 1828 in Swellendam; he was the son of William Musgrove Hopley and Aletta Alida (Hurlingh) Hopley. He was baptised in Stellenbosch on 9 August 1828.

He was 24 years old when he married 18 year old Wilhelmina Johanna von Abo in Cradock on 2 September 1852.^[1]

Wilhelmina passed away in 1893; the 66-year-old widower married 50-year-old widow Susanna Cornelia (Alleman) Meurant in the Pastorie of the NG Church in Heidelburg, Cape Colony on 12 June 1894.^[2]

Frederick was a Farmer and Land Surveyor; he had also served in the old Cape Parliament. He was 68 years old when he passed away at his home Hope Lodge in Swellendam on 9 October 1895.^[3]
