Mary Hopper was born in 1784 in Leavening , then in East Yorkshire, not far south of Malton, according to the 1851 census but she was evidently baptised seven days later ten miles further east in Wetwang where she later married. [1]
Mary Hopper married Michael Horsley in Garton on the Wolds in 1808. [2]
In 1851 Mary Horsley is in Nafferton with her son John Horsley aged 40 and Eliza aged 10 a grandchild. John has become an Agricultural Labourer paid weekly and living at home with his mother and niece. Probably they had a garden, growing vegetables, poultry and even a pig. [3]
If Mary Horsley stays in Nafferton as seems likely, she dies in 1859 aged at least 75 - look for a Nafferton or Garton burial. [4]
