Death was due to heart trouble and came without warning, the deceased expiring within a few minutes after being stricken. He had been in poor health for several years, on previous occasions has suffered spells. Saturday night hesustained a similar stroke, but seemed to be much better Sunday and the family had no apprehensions, thinking he would recover as at other times. However, during the night the death angel passed over the house and the father of the family was summoned hence. The funeral will be held from the late home at 2:30o'clock Wednesday afternoon. Rev. Dr. H. P. Hamill, pastor of Trinity M.E. Church, South, of which denomination the deceased was a life long member, will officiate, Rev. R. W. Mr. Hopper was born in Little Washington, Rappahannock county, Va., Sept. 16, 1847, and spent his younger days in that section. He first engaged in the sewing machine business and when a young man visited Shepherdstown, near where he met and married Miss Fannie Etchison, who died a few years afterwards. Later he married Miss Marietta Sprinkle, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Welcome Sprinkle, of near Greensburg, who survive shim with one son, by his first wife, Mr. Edgar Hopper, of Charlottesville, Va., and three children by the last marriage, Mr. Elmer M. Hopper, of North High street; Mrs. Lorenna Brenner and Mr. Conrad L. Hopper, at home. He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Alice Jett, wife of Rev. W.A.L. Jett, an Episcopal minister at Murray Hill, N.J., the last of a family of 15 children. Mr. Hopper came to Martinsburg and for 20 some years conducted a store on Moler avenue, retiring five or six years since because of ill health. He was a stalwart Democrat and a courtly gentleman of the old school, and an intelligent and well read man. For years he had been registrar at the precinct and in the past week had completed the work of registering the precinct vote. His death is a great shock to the family and friends
