  • Death cert Mary Winifred Brady died on 22 April, 1914, aged 81 years at Rowan St, Manilla. She was born in Co. Clare, Ireland . Her father was Terence Horan, a farmer and mother was Catherine. She married James Brady in Singleton, aged 28 and was buried at Keepit cemetery by Father J McDermott, RC. The informant was her youngest child, John Brady. He gave her age at death as 81 and said she had been in NSW for 60 years.

This does not agree with her age on Thomas's birth certificate 50 years earlier, which would make her only 75 or 76 at death. If she had been in NSW for 60 years, she then arrived at 15 or 16. Or he meant that she arrived when she was 21.

  • Obituary Manilla Express 25 April 1914 Mrs Mary W Brady.

A very old resisdent of the Manilla District in the person of Mrs Mary Winifred Brady entered into her eternal rest on Wednesday night, at the advanced age of 81 yrs, Death, due to senile heart failure occurred at the private hospital of Nurse McCulloch and came peacefully to the old lady. About 9 o'clock Mrs Brady, who appeared to be well, retired to rest, looking forward to the morrow, when she was to go to Keepit where so many years of her life had been spent. A short time later the nurse went to see the patient and found her asleep- asleep in the tranquil sleep of death, beyond all earthly care and sorrow and after a life's fitdul fever, at rest. She had evidently died in her slumber. The late Mrs Brady ( her maiden name was Horan) was a native of copunty Clare, Ireland and came to Australia when about 18. At Singleton, in or about the beginning of the seventies she met and married the late Mr James Brady and the young couple established their home at Talcumba for some three years, at the end of which period they moved to Keepit, That was 40 years ago and Mrs Brady had resided almost continuously at Keepit- the place she loved so well, and her oft express wish was to be laid to rest beside the dear ones who had gone before. Her husband predeceased her by 32 years, There were 8 children of the marriage, 3 being dead, 2 sons & 1 daughter. Those surviving are Charles (Gunedah), Thomas (Dungowan) Terence (Junee) James (Gunnedah) and John (Hawarden, Keepit), while in addition there are 17 grandchildren. The last Mrs Brady was a fine old soul, a devoted mother, and ever rady to extend a kindly word or deed, and her memory will be held in the deepest respect by all who had the privelage of her acquaintance. May she rest in peace. Her funeral took place at Keepit yesterday and was very largely attended. Mr J Elcott carried out the mortuary arrangements.
