Martha Elizabeth Hord was born on June 3, 1837 in Cleveland, North Carolina, United States, daughter of Jesse Hord (1813–1898) and Jane Emmeline Gardner (1818–1850).[1]
Martha married David Greenberry Carpenter (born in 1830; son of David Carpenter and Rosannah (Childers) Carpenter).[2] Their children were:
In 1850, Martha (13) was living in Cleveland, North Carolina with her mother, Jane (30); her siblings, Jane (8), James J (11), Susan R (5), and Martha (0); and Richard T Hord (3). [1]
In 1860, Martha (23) was living in Cleveland, North Carolina with her children, Jessee H (2), and Silas A (2/12); her sister, Mary A (21); and Rosanna Carpenter (56), and Robert C Carpenter (17). [3]
In 1880, Martha (43) was living in household of Wm. Morrison (66) in Cleveland, North Carolina with J.H. Carpenter (22), and Sam A. Carpenter (20). [4]
Martha died on May 30, 1927 in Cleveland, aged 89.
