Biography

Jeremiah was born about 1813. He was the son of James Horder. He passed away in 1852.

Parish Register, Fisherton Anger, Wiltshire, England - 1813 Baptisms: “June 27th, Jeremiah son of James and Anne Horder, of Salisbury, shoemaker. Ceremony performed by P. Harrison, curate.”[1]

From the Salisbury and Winchester Journal (Winchester, England) - December 24, 1852: Deaths—On the 20th inst., at Tisbury, Mr. Jeremiah Horder, aged 40, many years traveller for Messrs. Ovington and Co., London.

Census

1841 England Census - High Street, Shaftesbury, St. Peters parish, Dorset: James Sheppard, 41, cooper; Mary Sheppard, 38; William Sheppard, 11; James Sheppard, 7; Jeremiah Horder, 28. (Jeremiah was Mary’s younger brother.) All were born outside the county.

1851 England Census - Fife Terrace, Lambeth, Surrey: William Horder Sheppherd, 21, chemist, b. Fordingbridge; Jeremiah Horder (uncle), 38, commercial traveler, b. Salisbury; Sarah C. Horder (aunt), 36, housekeeper, b. Salisbury.
