Robert Dean Horn

HORN, Robert Dean – A resident of Roseburg, Oregon, passed away Sunday, December 28, 1997 as a result of an auto accident. Bob was born September 11, 1939 in Eugene, Oregon; son of Harold W. and Mildred (Truesdale) Horn. In 1938 the family moved to Roseburg. He attended school in Roseburg, then joined the Navy for two years, serving his country aboard the USS Kearsarge and USS Midway on tours of duty in Europe and received the Victory Medal. He returned to Roseburg and then attended Oregon State University in Corvallis. Bob also was a lifeguard at the city pool for several years. He married Danese Doak in 1950. Soon after he joined his parents to run Horn's Super Cream. After eight years he began working for Roseburg Reality and earned his broker's license. During the 1959 Blast in Roseburg he operated an air freight service and flew the blast victims to Portland. He also flew in local newspapers printed in the Grants Pass area to Roseburg when the News-Review presses were damaged from the blast. In 1962 he opened Bob Horn Real Estate and was a member of MLS. Relocation of the Harvard I-5 ramp closed the site. Bob enjoyed running heavy equipment and worked on construction of Ben Irving Reservoir. He then moved to other western states to work on large projects. He later returned to Roseburg and operated BH Funding. His hobbies included flying, photography, roping, hunting and fishing among others. He was a member of many organizations over his lifetime including the Douglas County (mounted) Sheriff's Posse, Red Cross , Masonic Laurel Lodge, Rosenberg Chamber of Commerce, Oregon Pilot's Association, Abate of Oregon, Int'l Brotherhood of Teamsters, Disabled American Veterans, La Pine Senior Citizens and had belonged St. George's Episcopal Church. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law Danese and Steve Gordon; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Rachel Horn; six grandchildren, Jody, Stacy, Stephanie, Kimmy, Joey and Justin; his brothers John Horn and his wife Deloris and Dallas Horn and numerous nieces and nephews. Also vary special friends, Willy, Dawn, Josh and Alisha; Sam and Family; Garland, Don, Paul, Cal, Curly and John plus his beloved dog, Little Girl. Memorial services will be conducted at the VFW Auxiliary Hall in Roseburg on Saturday, January 3, 1998 at 11 a.m. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of the Funeral Alternatives in Roseburg. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the Roseburg Chapter of Disabled American Veterans, the local VFW Chapter, or the Roseburg S.P.C.A.
