Blake was born in 1882. He was the son of James Horn and Lucinda Steed. He passed away in 1955.
According to his daughter Margaret and his niece Myrtle Horn, Blake ran away from home in his teens to "ride the rails" west to the home of his uncle Thomas Smith Steed in Wyoming. He is listed in his parents' home in Clay County, Alabama on the 1900 census when he was 17.[1] On the 1910 census he is listed in Bessemer, Natrona, Wyoming on the Tobin ranch as a worker.[2] He is using the name "Blake Horn". He told his family the name "Tom Horn" was so notorious in Wyoming that he dropped "Thomas" and used the name "Blake" for the rest of his life. During this period he became a successful rodeo rider. Later he was also a predator bounty hunter.
Blake acquired a homestead claim that he proved up in 1922.[3]. He acquired an adjacent larger tract in 1926.
He passed away in Wyoming in 1955, and was buried in Alabama. [4]
