Biography

He was a tenant farmer, who worked several farms in the Saginaw-Mt. Wolf area before moving to Saginaw, where he was a carpenter in the limestone quarries. In 1940, he is listed as a township road supervisor. The family lived for time in Saginaw and worked the farm on the river floodplain. They then moved to two other farms, the first off the Starview-Mt. Wolf Road in East Manchester Township and the second on Hartman's or Low's Island in the Susquehanna river, just below Brunner's Island, in East Manchester Township (This island is now part of the Brunner's Island Power Plant). Then, they moved back to Saginaw and lived in a house, which had been rented by William Horner, Charles' father.
