Biography

Charles Wesley Horner was born in March 1888 in Centre County, Pennsylvania, a son of George Wesley Horner (1863–1924) and Mary Catharine Colyer (1864–1946).

Charles was a graduate of Albright College, becoming a teacher and United Methodist Minister.

On 12 November 1910 he married Naomi Martz.

In June 1917 he registered for the World War One U.S. military draft. He reported that he was married with four children and was working as a minister for the Evangelical Association, serving the Sugar Valley Circuit. He was described as short and stout with gray eues and auburn hair. They were living in Loganton, Clinton County, Pennsylvania.[1]

In 1942 when they were living in East Greenville, Montgomery, Pennsylvania, Charles registered for the World War Two U.S. military draft. He reported that he was working as a minister for the Evangelical Church, serving in East Greenville. Oddly he was now described as 6 feet tall (not short) and 175 pounds with brown eyes, gray hair and a ruddy complexion.[2]

Charles and Naomi had a large family:

  1. Esther Irene Horner (1911–2006)[3], [4]
  2. Helen Love Horner (1913–2000)[5]
  3. Luke William Horner (1915–2005)[6]
  4. Fern Evelyn Horner (1917-2006)
  5. Miriam Velma Horner (1919-1972)

  9. Ruth Naomi Horner (1927–1995)[10]
  10. Paul Horner (1931-?)
  11. Mary Horner (1934-?)

He died in May 1974 at age 86 in Pottstown, Montgomery County and was buried in Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery, Zionsville, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania.[11], [12]
