Biography

Bethune Horsburgh was born in 1817. He was the son of Boyd Horsburgh of Lochmalony and his wife Jean Hay Scott.^[1] He attended Edinburgh Academy from 1826 to 1831 and then studied medicine, being licensed to practice from 1839. In 1840 he married Eleanor Elizabeth Robinson,^[2] and they had eight children. In 1868, on the death of his elder brother James without children, he inherited the estate of Lochmalony, consisting of about 400 acres (160 hectares) yielding 880 pounds a year. He passed away in 1892.^[3][4]
