An officer serving in the regiment (1st Regiment of Foot, later the Royal Scots) of Colonel Lord James Douglas (1617-1645), died in France 9 Mar 1639 (he had a daughter Christian Horsburgh baptised Peebles 1 Jan 1637) appears to have had no surviving issue. He was retoured heir 17 May 1620 to lands in Haddingstonshire and Lanarkshire, as heir to his deceased mother Jean Hay of Yester, and was witness to transactions of his Hay relatives in the mid-1630s. In his testament, registered in 1639, he was owed a sum of money by Francis Kinloch a factor (agent) in Paris.
