Eliza Horsley was born about 1840 in Nafferton just east of Driffield in the East Riding of Yorkshire. She is almost certainly the daughter of [Horsley-1031|Mary Horsley]] the daughter of Mary Hopper Horsley.
Eliza Horsley is living with her widowed grandmother, already 67 years old and going to live another eight years. How hard this life was would depend on the health and vitality of that grandmother and the activity of her uncle John. John has become an Agricultural Labourer paid weekly and living at home with his mother and niece. Probably they had a garden, growing vegetables, poultry and even a pig. [1]
We need to check details of the marriage in 1859 of Eliza Horsley to Robert Turner. The date is convenient as Eliza's grandmother Mary Horsley 75 with whom she lived died at this time. [2]
Note: Granddaughter with Mary (Hopper) Horsley, scholar 1851 Nafferton may not be daughter Mary's child. Probably Elizabeth Horsley 2 (Lodger crossed out) Yks with John & Elizabeth Young (both 49) in High St Nafferton 1841. -- If so, born about 1839 not 1841.
Not necessarily related to George Hodgson Horsley.
