Biography
Benjamin Horton immigrated to New England as a child during the Puritan Great Migration (1621-1640).
Benjamin, the second son of Barnabas Horton and Ann (Smith) Horton was born in 1627 in Mosley, Leicestershire, England.[1][2]He was baptized in Mowsley, on September 16, 1627.[2]He was baptized on September 16, 1627 at Mowsley.[3]
He married (1st) Ann, widow of Mr. Tucker, on February 22, 1659/60 in Southold, New York.[2][4][5]She died between 1683 and 1686.[2]They had no known children.[2]
He married (2nd) Mary (Hampton) Mapham,[2][6]who died after 1712.[2] They had no known children.[2]In his will he gave his wife’s clothes to his sisters. They were his first wife's clothes as his second wife, Mary (Hampton) Mappom Horton was still alive and living with her daughter Abigail and her husband Charles Booth 0n the 1698 census.
Benjamin was a wealthy farmer who did not serve in public office.[2]
He made his will on 19 Feb. 1686 and died on 3 Nov. 1690 in Rye, New York.[1]In his will, Benjamin left the bulk of his estate to his siblings, the church, and the poor.[2]. [1]
