Wilma Jean Bennett, 95, of Council Grove, KS, passed away Thursday, February 4, 2010, at Morris County Hospital. She was born December 11, 1914, to Lue Omar and Bonnie (Roberts) Horton, in Jameson, Davies County, Missouri. Wilma was a member of the Wilsey Methodist Church, the Hill Springs Hobby Club, a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and belonged to the Hoe and Hope Club at Wilsey until it was discontinued. She served on the cemetery and school boards at Diamond Springs for many years and was always faithful to serve on the election board. Her marriage to Carl A. Bennett was on August 15, 1935, at Wichita, KS. They farmed in the Diamond Springs community for 56 years before retiring and moving to Council Grove in 1991. Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, husband Carl on January 10, 2001, infant son Calvin, who died in 1951, 3 brothers, Dean Horton, Leland Horton and Donald Horton, and sister-in-law Grace Horton. Survivors include 2 daughters, Carol Miller and husband James, of Delavan and Betty Bacon, of Council Grove; brothers, Leo Horton, of Warwick, RI and Guy Horton and wife Donna, of Emporia; sister, Peggy Colby and husband Gene, of Alamo, TX; sister-in-laws, Doris Horton, of Americus, Bert Horton, of Council Grove and Carolyn Horton, of Emporia; 7 grandchildren, Kevin Miller and wife, Jackie, of Delavan, Kent Miller and wife Betsy, of Herington, Kirby Miller, of Herington, Kristie Miller and companion Vic Curiel, of Hutchinson, Zina Shepard and husband Steve, Amy Bacon, all of Council Grove, and Cindy Cornelius and husband Russell, of Chapman; 11 great-grandchildren; 3 step great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren, 2 step great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, February 8, 2010, at Wilsey United Methodist Church, with Pastor Christy Alexander officiating. A visitation will be held from 2:00 – 4:00 P.M., Sunday, February 7, 2010, at Penwell-Gabel Flint Hills Chapel. The burial will be held at Diamond Springs Cemetery following the service.
