Elizabeth was born in Manchester, Lancashire, England, in 1889.[1] Her birth was registered in the fourth quarter in Chorlton. She was the daughter of Thomas Horton and Amy Bradshaw. She was enumerated in the 1891, [2] 1901, [3] and 1911 census [4] residing with her parents and siblings in the Manchester area. In 1911, she was twenty one, single, and stated her occupation as "Electrical Switch Maker".
