Herbert was born in 1931. He was the son of Paul Horton and Mamie Jarrell. He passed away in 2013.

Obituary

Funeral services for Herbert Lee "Herb" Horton, 81, of Barnwell, SC will be held three pm Friday, May 31, 2013 in the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston, SC with the Reverends Floyd Dukes and Ted Still officiating. Burial will be in the Williston Cemetery with Masonic Rites accorded. The family will receive friends from six to eight pm Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials in memory of Mr. Horton may be given to a charity of one's choice. Mr. Horton passed away on Monday, May 27, 2013. Born in Hampton County he was a son of the late Paul Allen Horton and Irie Jarrell Horton. He grew up in Allendale County was a graduate of Allendale High School class of 1950. He joined the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at McChord Air Force Base in Tacoma, Washington where he married the love of his life Nancy Loud, they have been married for 61 years. He retired from E.I. DuPont at the Savannah River Plant in 1993 where he was a Health Physicist manager. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Barnwell where he was a teacher of the Men's Sunday School class. He was a life time member and past master of the Hope Masonic Lodge #126, Williston, was a member of the Ackerman Chapter 198 Order of the Eastern Star where he served as Worthy Patron a number of times and has also served as District Deputy a number of times. He was a former member of the Williston Jaycees, a 12 year member of the Williston Town Council and served three times as mayor pro-tem. He was appointed by Governor Edwards to serve on the Alcohol and Drug abuse Legislative committee and served on the Lower Savannah Council of Governments. He attended Augusta College and was a master hunter and fisherman. Survivors include his wife Nancy L. Horton of the home; daughters, Patty (Danny) Bland of West Columbia, Linda (Roger) Dunbar of West Columbia, Susie Brown (Alec Hatch) of North Augusta and Raine (Johnny) Weimortz of Williston; nine grandchildren, Nancy (Jason) Shealey, Danielle Bland, Tony (Susan) Roberts, Jason (Kim) Williams, Kandi (Ronnie) Hatchell, Marie Brown, Crystal (Fred) Hucksam, Katie Brown and Brenna Weimortz; fourteen great-grandchildren; brother, Ronnie (Sybil) Horton of Barnwell; sister, Barbara (Peter) Boineau of Bamberg. He was preceded in death by brothers, Paul Allen, Richard E. and Dan Horton; sisters, Bernice Collins and Dorothy Horton. A special thank you to the Certified Nursing Assistants, the Williston Rescue Squad and the Barnwell County Hospital and staff for the dedication and loving care shown for the past three years to Mr. Horton and his family.
