Biography

Moe Howard, the leader of the wildly popular comedy group the three stooges, is considered a national treasure. He was born on June 19, 1897, in the Brooklyn, New York, neighborhood of Bensonhurst, to Solomon Horwitz and Jennie Gorovitz, the fourth-born of five brothers of Lithuanian Jewish ancestry.

Moe's trademark "bowl cut" hairstyle is now widely recognized, but as a child Moe's mother refused to cut his hair. She would it grow to shoulder length and curl it. Finally he could not take his classmates' years of teasing any longer and she took him into in the back yard and cut his hair.

Moe ended up in Vaudeville followed by his Three Stooges act, which made him enormously successful. His reputation remains intact forty years after his death.
