Biography

William was born in Hagerstown, Maryland on 4 October 1858. He was the son of Henry Hose and Mary Burkhart. He passed away in Hagerstown on 10 August 1925.[1][2]

Obituary transcript:[4] William Alexander Hose died at his home, 339 Jefferson street, yesterday [10 August 1925] afternoon at 3:40 o'clock. Death resulted from heart disease. He was 66 years old. Mr. Hose was a member of St. Paul's United Brethren Church and of the Junior Fire Company. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Margaret E. Hose; children, Clarence, Robert, Gertrude, Minnie, Mary, William Jr., Frederick, Mrs. W. H. Harne, Mrs. W. F. Martin, Mrs. C.E. Miller, all of Hagerstown, and Mrs. J.T. Funkhouser, of Funkstown; brothers, Samuel and Frederick, both of Hagerstown, and Charles of Funkstown, and one sister, Mrs. J.C. Wiesner of Funkstown. Funeral services will be conducted at the home Thursday [13 August 1925] afternoon at 3 o'clock, by the Rev. Dr. F. Berry Plummer, assisted by the Rev. William M. Norment. Burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.

William died testate and appointed his wife Executrix of his estate. Witnesses to the will were J. H. Finfrock and Clarence E. Miller.[5]

1860 U.S. census - Hagerstown, Washington County, Maryland - William, age 1, resided with his parents and maternal grandmother.[6] 1870 U.S. census - Hagerstown, Washington County, Maryland - William, age 11, attended school and resided with his parents.[7] 1880 U.S. census - 17th Election District (Antietam), Washington County, Maryland - William, age 21, was a cooper and resided with his parents.[8]
