Mary Hosier was born the Maryland's eastern shore in the home of her parents:
Her birth is recorded in the minutes of the Third Haven Quaker church.[1] She is identified as Mary Johns in the will of her father [2]
The two marriages of Mary Hosier are recorded in the Quaker Minutes:
Unlike many women of her time period, Mary Hall did not remarry after the death of her second husband. Her children were adults and she likely continued to live with her son and manage her own affairs. The inventory of her estate is dated 27 OCT 1766 and was affirmed by her son, Richard Hall, one of the people called Quakers. It was valued at 237.10.6 pounds. The items of the greatest value were several enslaved people, among them two aged 70 and two aged 60. She owned old pewter and new pewter, a featherbed with furniture, a desk and a parcel of books. Her daughter, Elizabeth Hopkins, signed as the next of kin.[4]
Mary Hall's Calvert Co., MD will, dated January 28, 1762 and proved June 4, 1762 (Annapolis Wills, Liber 31, folio 1000): - to son Richard Hall and heirs, certain slaves; stock or horses, and etc.; - to dau.
