Henry (Harry) J. Hotel was born in Elma township, Perth county, Ontario, Canada and immigrated to Michigan, USA in 1893. He then married Annetta (Nettie) Flynn, also in 1893, and together they had:

Henry must have returned to Canada for a while, as had been a blacksmith from 1896 to 1899 at Lot 29 Concession 4 of Kurtzville, Ontario, Canada. He took over the backsmith shop from Henry Dietze and then sold to Frederick Ruppel. His family must have also come with him to Canada as Annetta gave birth to a stillborn son, George, in 1897.

Nettie died on November 24, 1901 in Ensley township, Newago county, Michigan. Henry then married Clara Eggle on September 03, 1902 in Osceola, Michigan. Together they had:
